Four things that stay the same in every project.

Design and code from one person
I started out doing design and stayed for the engineering behind it. Design planned around the engineering produces layouts that don't survive contact with a browser.

The process first, the page second
That habit is what stayed with me from studying Information Systems, the intersection of business and computer science. More often than not, the real answer to “we need a new website” is something else. Three steps behind it are still being done by hand.

You talk to the person who builds it
No project manager relaying messages, no ticket system, no agency loop. That limits how many projects I can take on at once. It is also exactly why you get an answer when you ask a question.

On site or remote
I work from Dortmund, Germany, and meet clients in person across the Ruhr area and southern Lower Saxony. Everything else runs remotely — distance hasn't decided a project in years.
What I work with
No site builder and no WordPress theme, but a stack built for load time and maintainability. Where a CMS makes sense you get one — just not by default.
